Architecture education is an academic pursuit which involves learning by creative thinking and experiencing built environment. Grounded in a multidisciplinary structure, the Department of Architecture of MIST started offering 5 years Bachelor of Architecture program since 2015. The B.Arch. program at MIST emphasizes a supportive studio culture through facilitated peer teaching and teamwork. The department encourages intellectual inquiry as the basis to forge individual design path. The Department’s philosophy of design excellence integrates the imaginative and skillful manipulation of form, as well as the ability to draw inspiration from a broad spectrum of knowledge. The architecture curriculum includes design studio, theory, visual studies, history, technology, and professional practice, with design as the central focus of instruction. Architecture faculty and students explore a range of design investigations, expand knowledge, and confront the challenges of the contemporary built environment. Our design-studios form both the physical and pedagogical core of the department.
The creative, collaborative atmosphere of the department enable architecture students to develop, discuss, exchange, and materialize ideas through a comprehensive range of platforms and process that are further enriched by the department’s parallel learning events, exhibitions and publications. As new ways of thinking emerge in the profession of architecture, the field grows increasingly complex and requires new techniques of inquiry and design. MIST educates committed individuals who have assumed leadership roles in shaping the built environment in global context.
The mission of the Dept. of Architecture is drawn from the vision of MIST and composed with followings:
-To nurture design-minded and globally competent students to engage in architecture in it’s civic, social, and professional realms for the benefit of built and natural environment.
-To promote a learning environment for involving the students in intellectual inquisitiveness, exploring knowledge dimensions, developing high technical competence and design skill for future application in industry, profession and life.
-To provide hands-on, process-based learning through problem solving and critical thinking.
-To foster strategic alliances with academia, industry and government for research and its application.
-To inculcate the ethical, social and moral values which is the basis of human social order.
-To create awareness among students regarding responsibilities of built environment on communities and settlements by advocating the responsible architecture in the realm of social, political, environmental and economic issues in creating a sustainable future locally, nationally and globally.
Bachelor of Architecture (5 years):
To complete the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) program a minimum 189 credit hours is required. There will be total of 16.0 credit hours of General Education (Human Science) courses, 82.0 credit hours of Design courses, 21.0 credit hours of Design Communication studios, 20.0 credit hours of Technical System Courses, 16.0 credit hours of History, Human Behavior & Environment courses and 32.0 credit hours of Design Related theory courses and 2.0 credit hours of Practice to complete the program. Students of the program need to earn minimum CGPA of 2.20 to obtain the degree.
The Department of Architecture draws its strength from the experienced pool of highly professional faculties. The dept. is headed by the Head of the department and composed of 18 full-time faculty members including 4 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors and 9 Lecturers. The existing faculty members have specialization in a diverse professional and academic field that opens up wider areas of opportunities for sharing knowledge with the students.
The CAD LAB is equipped with new generation computers with special software to address the cutting edge issues in Architectural education. Moreover, the department has a number of plotters to provide printing facilities for students. However, all the studios are spacious enough to accommodate design-related activities Moreover, a well-equipped model making lab will be opened for students very soon.
To argument the learning facilities, a Departmental library has also been established. In addition to the MIST Central library, the Departmental library holds number of books, journal and relevant publication to create a regular platform for the student and faculty members to explore ideas and exchange knowledge. The library is well subscribed by the students and is a hub of research work and project activities undertaken by the department.
A highly motivated faculty and departmental facilities provide an ideal environment for the students to carry out their research, undertake projects, and publish in international/national platforms. The faculties of the department lead these research work and mentor the students so that the students acquire the necessary skill. The department has also published number of in house publications related to the student projects and research.
Department of Architecture organizes seminars and lecture series on a regular basis to promote inclusive and parallel learning. The department already organized more than 20 conferences, seminars, and lecture series that included presentations of national and international speakers. Moreover, guest speakers are also invited to give lectures on special topics at design and theory classes.
To ensure the hands-on experience for the student, the Department of Architecture organizes a series of workshops for capacity building on cutting edge issues. The Department already organized a number of workshops on model making and design-related software.
The Department of Architecture organizes different social and cultural events to promote the extracurricular activities of the student. However the Department of Architecture also encourages and support the students to take part at different platforms for cultural and social activities through which they can forge their leadership qualities and social skills
The Department of Architecture highly encourages its faculty members and students to engage in events & activities related to their field of interest at national and International level. Our highly reputed faculty members are already active in their field of specialization and have a strong footprint at the National and International levels.
